HOW TO GET ARTICLES HALLMARKED
REGISTRATION
First, you must register your unique sponsor's mark. Assay Office London offers 45 standard designs and others are available by arrangement. Registration costs £70.50 (including VAT) and lasts for 10 years. Customers are contacted automatically when their registration is due for renewal. Instructions on how to register can be found here.
PUNCH ORDERING
A sponsor's mark must be purchased before hallmarking can take place. A range of sizes is available depending on the type of work to be hallmarked. Punches can be cut on two different shanks, known as "straight" or "swan neck". The latter is required for marking the inside of rings. The swan neck shank can usually be used on other articles as well, making it the ideal choice if only one punch is to be ordered. Further details can be found here.
Once registration is complete and a punch has been purchased, articles can be submitted for hallmarking. Your sponsor's mark will also be automatically uploaded to our laser marking software free of charge. Articles should be grouped into packets with the same fineness and each packet should contain a completed hallnote.
