Verdict of the Pyx

Today marked the conclusion of the Trial of the Pyx 2017.  The Verdict was read to the jury by the Clerk of the Goldsmiths' Company. The Queen's Remembrancer was in attendance at Goldsmiths' Hall.  

Since February, the Laboratory Team at the Assay Office have been testing a random selection of coins which were brought to us for analysis by The Royal Mint. Representatives of the Goldsmiths' Company and Assay Office declared their findings at the Verdict.

"Guardians of Gold" in Chemistry World Magazine

Elinor Hughes, Feature Writer at Chemistry World, visited the London Assay Office "to watch its precious metal analysts at work".  

The result was an excellent article and video called "Setting the Gold Standard".   Watch for explanations of our metal analysis methods.

30 Livery companies gave 600 students a glimpse into their industries at a special event at Guildhall.

This year, Assay Office apprentice Ryan Grant, and two of the Centre’s Foundation Programme trainees May Savage and Ben Free, highlighted career opportunities within our industry as part of the Company's support for education.

The Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office is a commercial business responsible for the hallmarking of precious metals since 1300.  We are now seeking two permanent Assistants to work part-time at an offsite facility in Central London, applying laser hallmarks to jewellery items.  Each post will cover for the other during holiday periods.
